About the Author
Mark F. Sanders has been a faculty member in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis for 27 years. In that time, he has taught more than 120 genetics courses to more than 30,000 undergraduate students. Specializing in teaching the genetics course for which this book is written, Dr. Sanders also teaches a genetics laboratory course, an advanced human genetics course for biology majors, and a human heredity course for non-science majors.  His teaching experience also includes introductory biology, and courses in population genetics and evolution. 

 

Dr. Sanders received his Bachelors degree in Anthropology from San Francisco State University and his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Biological Anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles.  Following graduation, he spent four years at the University of California, Berkeley as a post-doctoral researcher studying inherited susceptibility to human breast and ovarian cancer. At UC Berkeley he also taught his first genetics courses. Since coming to the University of California, Davis, Dr. Sanders has maintained a full-time teaching schedule and promotes academic achievement by undergraduate students in numerous ways, including as an active student advisor, through his on-going role as the director of a long-standing undergraduate student program, and by past service as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Programs in the College of Biological Sciences.

 

John L. Bowman is a Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Plant Biology at the University of California, Davis in the US. He received a B.S. in Biochemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois in 1986 and a Ph.D. in Biology from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California.  His Ph.D. research focused on how the identities floral organs are specified in Arabidopsis (described in Chapter 20).  He conducted postdoctoral research at Monash University on the regulation of floral development.  From 1996-2006 his laboratory at UC Davis focused on the developmental genetics of plant development, focusing on how leaves are patterned. From 2006-2011 he was a Federation Fellow at Monash University where his laboratory is studying land plant evolution using a developmental genetics approach.  At UC Davis he taught genetics, 'from Mendel to cancer', to undergraduate students, and continues to teach genetics courses at Monash University.

this "book" is a blatant attempt to cash in on the renewed interest in psychedelics...it contains little if any useful information...the author didn't even put his/her name on this "book"...a total ripoff, don't waste your money...

Colin Willis has some great books about different kinds of mushrooms and this one was no different! I love his non-biased approach and ability to get straight to the facts about mushrooms. I've always been curious, but have never tried them. If you are considering it though, it's great to know some of the background information and science behind them before just jumping straight in. Overall, really insightful information and it's nice to have all of it in one place, instead of searching around online.

I would not even cal this a "book". It appears the information was cut and pasted from various internet resources with amateurish attempt at writing to connect the pieces of information. Waste of money even if it was only a few bucks.

Not well informed at all. Just ramblings from one person's life using. No knowledge of writing skills. Gives no real information.

It's a pretty good book but some of the facts are not a hundred percent. Just everything you read double check. An example is his discussion on prodrugs. He has the gist of things right.

Nothing in this book that you can't find with a simple web search. Don't waste your money.

I bought this out of simple curiosity. I love growing plants, but fungi isn't my thing. Good book, though.

Scott Sonnon overcame dyslexia so severe that he was hospitalized in a children's psychiatric institution for his "disruptive classroom behavior." Despite being advised that he should not set his expectations very high, he went on to become a five-time world martial arts champion, award-winning producer, prolific author, patent-holding inventor and fitness industry magnate with his books, DVDs and equipment now available in 68 countries worldwide. Ironically, Scott became a keynote speaker for the genius organization Mensa, and his acclaimed TEDx talk challenges the notion of "learning disabilities" through the creative genius of alternative learning styles. Using his "unique neurological wiring" to create innovative health programs, he was named one of the Top 25 Trainers in the world by Men's Fitness Magazine, "World's Smartest Workout" creator by Men's Health Magazine, and one of the seven most influential martial art teachers of the 21st century by Black Belt Magazine. Scott was named an adjunct instructor for the U.S. Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, and lecturer for the State and Local Law Enforcement Training Symposium.
